Lana Wilkinson Fashion Stylist

Rachel Zoe, Nicole Warne (Garry Pepper Vintage) and Melbourne rising star, Micah Gianneli, are just some of the familiar faces rocking the fashion world with their killer wardrobes and innate flair for styling.

Then comes Lana Wilkinson, a local stylist who’s steadily gaining momentum in fashion circles in and around Melbourne.

A born fashionista, Lana made her foray into the styling industry when her friends and co-workers began asking her for style advice and wardrobe help, encouraging her to turn her passion into her profession and become a personal stylist.

Lana has styled for Covet Magazine, the iSelect Fashion Aid 5 publicity shoot and Randwick Races – just to name a few. She’s also the personal stylist of celebrities such as AFL wag, Lynette Bolton, The Slap actress, Diana Glenn and Underbelly star, Emma Booth.

Lana’s style is colourful, playful and always on trend. She loves to support Australian designers and is often seen dressed in pieces by Mossman, Alice McCall and PeepToe.

Dubbed the ‘darling’ of Melbourne fashion, we’re falling in love with Lana’s style and can’t wait to see what lust-worthy looks she pulls together next!

Melbourne Winter Markets

Whilst the grey skies and frosty weather may not inspire you, Melbourne’s array of winter crafts and markets should give you plenty of reason to get off the couch and create something beautiful.

Fill your bellies and feast your eyes on some of the exciting new markets and activities building buzz across Melbourne this winter.

Though the days may be getting shorter, there’s certainly no shortage of things to see and places to explore. Below is a list the top picks on Fashion Journal’s winter to-do list:

Chinatown Market Day

Every third Friday of the month, Heffernan Lane in Chinatown will come alive with the smell of hawker-style food stalls, serving up steaming plates of dumplings, noodles, rice and curries.

After the sun sets, the laneway transforms into a mystical night market, lit with Magical Mirabella Lighting and abuzz with crowds lured in from the cold by the seductive smell of satay and profusion of craft and souvenir stalls.

The Chinatown Market Day will run between 18th May – 21st December 2012 from 4pm-10pm. This is an over 18 event and there is no charge or booking required to attend the Market.

Photography Night Walks

The Photography Night Walks are a creatively-focussed walking tour which offers locals and visitors the opportunity to explore the city and night and learn about night-time photography.

Each week, the tour chooses a different location to explore around Melbourne, building a strong network of fellow photography enthusiasts with any level of experience. The locations are selected based on their inherent aesthetic quality, individualism and have recently come to include several Melbourne laneways, Docklands, Chinatown, rooftops, interiors and the Queen Victoria Markets.

The main aim of the Nightwalk is to inspire photographers to develop their photography skills through hands-on tips, interaction with fellow photography enthusiants and a broad variety of visual stimulus.

Once a month, the group convenes for a post-walk drink and discussion to view the evening’s work projected on a large digital screen at local venues.

The walks are held every Thursday at 7pm and Sundays at 6pm in Melbourne and Perth and cost between $20-30 to attend.

Converse Australia Presents: Acts of Disruption

What do you get when you round up a bunch of talented, emerging bands, set them up with their own live concert and ask them to pick any location they want to perform (regardless of how far off the beaten track said location may be)?

Well, you’d certainly get one interesting performance and that’s exactly what Converse Australia’s Acts of Disruption series aims to create.

Acts of Disruption is a Converse initiative designed to shake up the music scene by inviting bands to showcase their artistry in unique and unexpected locations. Converse began disrupting the traditional live music tour experience last year, when they first launched the Acts of Disruption series in China.

The movement showcased a variety of creative venues across China and featured a rare mix of music acts including Health, Re-Tros and White+. Now, backed by popular demand, the series has sailed over the Pacific and exploded onto the shores of Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Converse's Acts of Disruption is fast becoming an  international music phenomenon, with its fervent commitment to supporting local music scenes and delivering fresh experiences to music fans around the world.

Last month, Australia played host to the Acts of Distribution series for the first time when Melbourne’s own King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard took over the vacant Rozelle Hospital in Sydney. The band tore through their set as busloads of fans ran amok across the stage and through the abandoned hospital halls.

Today, Converse Australia is proud to announce the next round of shows, which will take place at yet-to-be-revealed locations in Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington.

To catch a glimpse of some of the mayhem at Rozelle, check out their video.

Tickets for the Acts of Disruption events are free of charge and available exclusively via RSVP on the Converse Australia Facebook Page
